FORO: What was your biggest challenge in the hospitality industry?
Chef Thomas Buhner: Working in the hospitality industry has always been difficult because most businesses generate minimal profit. The biggest challenge at the moment is to hold out economically, to stand by the employees, not to have to fire you, and to have a concept after or after a crisis that can continue despite the changed circumstances.
FORO: How did the authorities in your country react to help those in the hospitality industry?
Chef Thomas Buhner: In Germany hotels and restaurants are still closed, but there are many signs that the beginning of May will change. As of today, the VAT on restaurants has been reduced from 19% to 07%. I think that’s a very good and important step.
FORO: What do you think we have learned from this crisis experience so far?
Chef Thomas Buhner: Solidarity, it is the most important and I hope that it remains sustainable.
Chef Thomas Buhner was Speaker and Guest at the International Forum for Reputation in Hospitality FORO 2018. This year’s edition will take place at JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel.
